Your support and contributions will enable us to help these animals. Your generous donation will fund our mission.

We are a not-for-profit rescue organisation dedicated to finding safe, loving, forever homes for dogs and cats in need.
Originally, and still predominantly focused on rescuing animals from Romania, we have also expanded our work to help dogs and cats from other countries, including Bosnia, Greece & Serbia. Alongside our international rescue efforts, we also help UK dogs and cats who have been surrendered and need a second chance.
Our rescue is based in the UK and operates through a network of wonderful foster homes across the country. These foster homes allow animals to settle into a safe environment while they wait to find their forever families.
If you need help with a dog or cat that requires rescue space, please contact us. While we cannot always guarantee space, we will always do our best to help where we can.
The stray dog and cat population in Romania remains a serious and ongoing welfare crisis.
During the 1980s, many dogs were abandoned when housing changes meant people could no longer keep their animals. With little access to neutering and very limited public education about responsible ownership, the stray population quickly grew.
In response to the rising numbers, mass culling programs were introduced, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of dogs.
Today, Romanian law still allows stray dogs to be euthanised after a short period in public shelters if they are not adopted.
Sadly, many public shelters are severely overcrowded and under-resourced. Animals often receive little food, minimal veterinary care and live in very poor conditions.
Romania also experiences extreme temperatures, with summer heat reaching 40°C and winter dropping to -15°C, making life in these shelters even more difficult.
Cats face many of the same challenges. Because the cost of transporting cats to the UK is often the same as transporting dogs, many rescues sadly cannot afford to bring them over. As a result, cats are frequently overlooked and left living long-term in overcrowded shelters, cages or even rabbit hutches, with very little chance of ever finding a home.
At Love4Dogs Rescue, we believe cats deserve the same chance as dogs to live safe and happy lives. For this reason, we have expanded our work to include rescuing cats as well, helping them leave these conditions and giving them the opportunity to find loving homes in the UK.
Stray animals also face many dangers on the streets, including illness, injury, and abandonment of unwanted litters. Without intervention, many puppies and kittens do not survive.
At Love4Dogs Rescue, we help as many dogs and cats as we can. We do not turn away the older animals, those with disabilities, or those who may need extra care and ongoing medical treatment. We believe every animal deserves the chance to live in a warm, safe, and loving home — not just the young or “easy to home” ones.
We work closely with a small number of trusted rescuers in Romania who dedicate their lives to caring for animals in need. These incredible people often use their own time and personal income to feed, shelter, and care for large numbers of dogs and cats. We support them by helping to find loving homes for these animals in the UK, as well as sending food, flea and worm treatments, and contributing funds to help maintain their shelters.
Several members of our team have travelled to Romania to visit the shelters and work alongside our rescuers. Seeing the situation first-hand has only strengthened our commitment to helping these animals.
Once dogs and cats arrive in the UK, they are placed into our wonderful network of foster homes across the country. Foster homes allow the animals to settle, be assessed in a home environment, and prepare for their future families. We simply couldn’t do this work without our incredible foster carers. If you think fostering might be something you could help with, please visit our Fostering page to learn more.
Before adoption, all of our dogs and cats receive appropriate veterinary care. They are health checked, vaccinated, flea and worm treated, microchipped, and neutered if they are old enough. They also travel with the required documentation required for their journey to the UK.
